New York Independent System Operator’s (NYISO) Available Transfer Capability (ATC) Interface
NYISO manages the flow of electricity through nearly 11,000 miles of transmission lines across New York State, connecting more than 500 electric power generators to local distributor utilities. NYISO has its roots in the New York Power Pool, established in the late 1960s, and was formally created to manage and monitor New York’s newly reorganized wholesale electricity markets in December of 1999.
Bigwood Systems, Inc. (BSI) developed the ATC engine and Interface as part of a NYSERDA project with NYISO. The software tool is able to determine transfer flows and limits for the pilot project and incorporate phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements from NYISO into the study. The Interface provides a visual representation of the network state and limits as well as a PMU reader for studies through a graphical user interface.
